The fact that a vast majority of the people conducting searches for free stuff online are students is one that is quite easily understandable. After all, it is common knowledge that most students tend to find themselves facing real financial constraints from time to time, which must somehow be overcome, even it takes getting free stuff from the Internet.

And to tap this need for free stuff by students – especially college students – a considerable number of websites have emerged, with some offering the free stuff themselves, and others having links pointing the students to where they can find the free stuff online.

Among the free stuff sites that are most popular with students are those offering the students access to various scholarships and grants, with which they can finance their education. With parental incomes going down and tuition fees going up exponentially over the last few years, the search for various scholarships and grants through a student ‘can potentially go through college for free’ is almost desperate. And, to be sure, some students are lucky enough to get reasonably good scholarships and grants through these sites, though it is also noteworthy that some are actually scams.

The other category of free stuff for students that attracts vast number of visits from the students is that of sites that offer free educational resources. In this category, think of the numerous online libraries that offer students access to books they would have to pay a fortune to read on private libraries.

Websites offering students access to free computer software (and hardware through the so-called free computers for students) are another lot that is extremely popular with students. The modern student is after all a major fun of technology, ever keen to have the latest gadget in the market and the latest software versions, his or her limited budget notwithstanding.

The free online survey sites, where students can take part in online surveys in exchange for payment in cash or in kind (through shopping coupons for instance) are the other category of free stuff sites popular with students. Engagements like taking part in these surveys are engagements that students – who typically tend to have considerable amounts of free time on their hands – find quite attractive. In any case, the payment rates that these survey sites offer to people who take part in the surveys are typically rates that can only attract students.
